SERVICE

Architecture, Planning, Interiors & Project Management by Brahma London

One of the smallest, most peculiar and yet most interesting projects we have ever had the delight of being involved with.

Our client purchased her apartment on the 2nd floor of this building in a suburban development in leafy Northwood in the mid-1990s and has waited patiently for over 20 years to make her ultimate dream into reality. Once able to purchase the Freehold of the building which contains two other flats, she approached Brahma London to utilise the empty cavernous loft space above her home and create a duplex penthouse with private lift access.

Brahma London overcame tricky obstacles to obtain planning permission to convert the loft into a hotel-style Master suite covering 35sqm and extend the communal stairwell and entrance to house a new private lift directly from the ground to the penthouse.

We have fully interior designed and project managed this development including bespoke features throughout. Whilst the Master suite is a calm and light space split by frosted glass panels and views over the tree line, the main floor is a dramatic theatre of rich timber panelling, black cladding and a kitchen with brass-fronted doors.

The entire floor can open up to create one single entertainment, living and home office space for the client but can be subdivided into 2 additional bedrooms and private spaces for when hosting family and guests.

Our favourite part: the staircase to nowhere. The new open/floating staircase with a central steel spine and black timber blocks leads directly into the old party wall where it disappears and comes out of the other side as completely inverted closed light-oak timber treads leading to the new loft suite.
